Beer: Houblon Chouffe-IPA Tripel
Brewer: Brasserie d’Achouffe - Achouffe village Wallonia, Belgium
Website: http://www.achouffe.be/en
In bottle @:Brabo Tasting Room
Rating: 4 out of 5 Pints. Great mixture of IPA bitterness and the fruitiness of a tripel. This is the 2nd Brasserie d’Achouffe beer reviewed; the first was their la chouffe which remains their signature beer in my mind- however this is another great offering.
My friend Nicola Moore is raising funds to launch an online game about the national debt. The game recently was voted “Most Likely to Succeed” at the Games for Change Festival.
Rating: 5 Pints! A online game where people can learn how to fix the future! I’ll drink to that.
Bar Review.
Establishment:Brian Boru
Location: 57 Center Street Portland, ME 04101
Website: http://www.brianboruportland.com/
Rating: 4 out of 5 pints. Just a tad walk off the Old Port; Brian Boru is an early corner stone of what is Portland now thriving night life.
Don’t miss Reggae every Thursday Night and the large upstairs backdeck with its ”Drinking Consultants” sign which whimsically taunts the signage of Portland’s downtown consultants, law firms, and accounting practices it faces.
Beer: Allagash Black (Belgian style stout) Website: http://www.allagash.com On tap@: 1905 Restaurant U Street Area Washington D.C. Rating: 5 out of 5 Pints. 15 years after Allagash White helped spark America’s new found (and well justified) love of Belgian Beers-They follow up with Allagash Black. I have spent many a summer day drinking Allagash White, I see many a cold winter night in the future enjoying Allagash Black.
Beer: Hammerhead Ale (American Pale Ale)
Brewer: Edgefield Brewery (McMenamins)
Website: http://www.mcmenamins.com/
On tap@: McMenamins Edgefield Brewery (of note I had this beer at my friend Camile Cooke’s wedding which was held at McMenamins Edgefield- first wedding I have ever been to at a Microbrewery. Hopefully not my last!
Rating: 4.5 out of 5 Pints. Fantastically smooth American Pale Ale.

Beer: La Chouffe - Belgian Golden Blonde Ale
Brewer: Brasserie d’Achouffe - Achouffe village Wallonia, Belgium
Website: http://www.achouffe.be/en
On tap@: Guthrie’s Tavern (Near Wrigley Field)
Rating: 4.5 out of 5 Pints. Est. in 1982 Brasserie d’Achouffe is the new kid on the block from a country where they have been brewing beer for 700 plus years.
However their trademark Elf brings some magical taste with him. La Chouffe is smooth and tasty not to sweet like some similar Belgian beers.
Bar Review
Changing things up a little bit.
Establishment:Guthrie’s Tavern
Location: 1300 W Addison St (between Lakewood Ave & Wayne Ave) Chicago, IL 60613 (3 blocks from Wrigley)
Website: http://guthriestavern.tripod.com/
Rating: 5 out of 5 pints. Guthrie’s advertises on their Tripod page( how about that for a throwback )that they have over 50 board games. Board games and a great draft list make Guthrie’s a must visit.
Beer: Ur-Weisse (hefeweizen)
Brewer: Ayinger Brewery Aying, Bavaria
Website: http://en.ayinger-bier.de
On tap@: Guthrie’s Tavern (Near Wrigley Field)
Rating: 4.5 out of 5 Pints. Makes me want to hop on a plane and go to Bavaria. Until then I will be hunting down other Ayinger beers on tap in the States.
